Courtney Edmonds Campaign - Frequently Asked Questions

Are you running against Commissioner Stewart?

[7/25/2025 Update: Commissioner Stewart announced on 7/25/2025 that she will be running for Commissioner President in 2026. Consequently, there is no reasonable basis for me to "reconsider my candidacy." However, the last sentence in my response below is 100% accurate and still my belief.]

"I hope not. I'm running for the position of Charles County Commissioner based on at least three factors. First, Commissioner Stewart has done such a great job that I strongly believe she is ready for the next level of leadership for Charles County. Second, because of her track record in terms of focusing on improving our county, I'm hoping, wishing, and assuming that she will decide to run for a role other than the District 3 Commissioner position. If she decides to run for the Dist. 3 role, then I will reconsider my candidacy. Lastly, whichever role she selects, I will continue to support her leadership. More importantly, there is no doubt in my mind that she and I will be able to effectively collaborate on behalf of county residents. For more information, please refer to the campaign FAQs.

Why are you filing so early?

Although this will be the first year of 'by district' voting, I want to let all Charles County residents know that I'm running for Charles County Commissioner on behalf of the whole county. My message is clear: Elected officials can and must do better for the residents of our county. In support of that message, I want to provide all county voters in general and the residents of District 3 in particular, that I am committed to listening to their concerns and ensuring that they understand how my vision of the county will affect their daily lives. For those who have questions, I encourage you to check out the campaign FAQs. By filing early, I will have the opportunity to gather information from residents while sharing with them my views on how to address their concerns, and how my integrity and professional experience provide me with the wherewithal to work not only tirelessly on their behalf—but ethically and effectively on their behalf. Elect Courtney Edmonds, July 7, 2025.

Politics in general is so nasty right now. How do you expect to remain above the fray?

In my opinion, politics has become increasingly nasty for at least three reasons. First, it is now deemed acceptable for the tone of communications to be mean-spirited and unprofessional. Second, the normalization of misinformation and outright lies on social media and through other channels is troubling. Finally, incendiary arguments based on race, sexuality, or other divisive issues have become the go-to tactics for those advocating positions lacking objective and substantive merit. As I run my campaign for the position of Charles County Commissioner, I will stay above the fray by ensuring that all of my communications are respectful and professional. Some may believe this approach is easier said than done, but I have served in leadership roles in a Fortune 500 company and on various boards and committees where the minimum requirement has been to communicate respectfully and professionally. Simply put, just because others choose to play in the mud does not mean I have to join them. Regarding misinformation and deception, my personal and professional existence has been built on a foundation of integrity and honesty. You may call me naive, but I firmly believe that if I can't share the truth, I have nothing to share. When it comes to any form of insulting ethnic groups, the LGBTQ+ community, or advocacy groups—such as developers, environmentalists, or other political parties—I am running based on my enthusiastic embrace of the diversity we share in our county and the fiduciary obligation imposed on the Board of Commissioners to act in the best interests of all residents. Therefore, in my words and deeds, I intend to demonstrate that not only will I be a Commissioner for the County, I will respect the diversity of residents and stakeholders within and outside our county.
