"I hope not. I'm running based on at least three factors. First, Commissioner Stewart has done such a great job, I strongly believe she is ready for the next level of leadership for Charles County. Second, because of her track record in terms of focusing on improving our county, I'm hoping, wishing and assuming that she will decide to run for a role other than the District 3 Commissioner position. If she decides to run for the Dist. 3 role, then I will reconsider my candidacy. Lastly, whichever role she selects, I will continue to support her leadership. More importantly, there is no doubt in my mind that she and I will be able to effectively collaborate on behalf of county residents." Courtney Edmonds, July 7, 2025
"Although this will be the first year of 'by district' voting, I want to let all Charles County residents know that I'm running on behalf of the whole county. My message is clear: Elected officials can and must do better for the residents of our county. In support of that message, I want to provide all county voters in general and the residents of District 3 in particular, that I am committed to listening to their concerns and ensuring that they understand how my vision of the county will affect their daily lives. By filing early, I will have the opportunity to gather information from residents while sharing with them my views on how to address their concerns, and how my integrity and professional experience provides me with the wherewithal to work not only tirelessly on their behalf-but ethically and effectively on their behalf." "In my opinion, politics is so nasty now for at least three reasons. First, it has become acceptable for the tone of communications to be mean-spirited and unprofessional. Second, the spreading of misinformation and downright lies on social media and via other communications has also become normalized. Finally, incendiary [race-, sexuality-, or other-] based arguments, gossip and innuendo have become the mainstay of proponents of positions that lack objective and substantive merit. I will stay above the fray by ensuring that all of my communications are respectful and professional. I fully understand that some people believe this approach is easier said than done, but I've served in leadership positions in a Fortune 500 company and on various boards and committees where the minimum requirement has been to communicate respectfully and professionally. Simply put, just because people love to play in the mud, doesn't mean that I have to play with them. With regard to misinformation and deception, my personal and professional existence has been built upon a platform of integrity and honesty. You can call me naive, but I strongly believe that if I can't share the truth, I have nothing to share. With regard to any form of insulting any ethnic groups, the LGBTQ+ community, or advocacy groups (e.g., developers, environmentalists, or other political parties) whether explicitly or implicitly, I'm running based on my enthusiastic embrace of the diversity we share in our county and the fiduciary obligation imposed on the Board of Commissioners to act in the best interests of the entire county. Consequently, in my words and deeds, I intend to show that not only I will be a Commissioner for the County, I will respect the diversity of residents and stakeholders within and outside our county."
